What is “Score for a Hole in the Ground” ?

In July 2005, to my great surprise, I won the PRS Foundation New Music Award. The prize was a sum of money with which to realise the project proposed as an entry to the competition.

This has now been built in Kings Wood, Kent, in association with Stour Valley Arts and was completed in September 2006,

The most direct introduction is a 3 minute film made by Yeast and the original proposal for the competition.

Several details in this overview have changed, notably the instrumentation and the construction of a hole, but the underlying principles remain the same.

Consulatants on this project are structural engineer Neil Thomas, of Atelier One, and acoustician Paul Gillieron.
